Grounding: A Somatic Practice Workshop
Saturday March 11th 1-3pm (Castro Office)
In these uncertain times, it is common to feel distressed. Alarm, urgency and uneasiness takes its toll on us. When we sustain patterns of distress we get ungrounded and are prone to being swept away by external forces and extreme reactions. It is therefore essential to practice being grounded and present with ourselves. But what does that really mean to be grounded? How can we learn to do this?
This two-hour workshop will explore practices for grounding. Managing ourselves begins with experiencing how we lose—and re-gain—contact with ourselves. This is more than relaxing or a calm state of mind. Grounding is the act of deepening into our somatic responses. The more grounded we are in our aliveness and emotional truth, the more vital, rooted and empowered we can be in the face of uncertainty.
Space is limited to 7 participants.
TO REGISTER: Contact me at or call 415-580-0136

October 15th 1-3PM Location: Castro Office (18th and Diamond St.)
None of us are immune to the impact of uncertainty, whether in our personal lives or in relation to larger social forces. For many of us, uncertainty generates a rush of responses like alarm, urgency and vigilance. When perpetuated, these over-active somatic states create excess stress and overwhelm. Recognizing our somatic responses is therefore an important step in managing ourselves.
This 2 hour introductory workshop will explore your embodied responses in situations of uncertainty. You will learn practices can be applied to your daily life to deepen your sense of grounding and self-control in the face of rapid change, heightened demand and collective fear.
ABOUT THE EXERCISES:
The exercises offer an experiential education in how form your responses. The exercises are done from a position of sitting and engage small muscular acts rather than large expressive movements or stretches. Small movements heighten self-awareness and discovery.
The exercises are non-performative: they are done in the spirit of exploration and experiment and at your own pace and comfort. Personal sharing is focused on discoveries and present experiences generated in the exercises.
The workshop is not intended to address an immanent crisis. If you are in crisis, please talk with me about how you can get more support.
